Kick back to the sounds of original Australian grooves as the Hervey Bay Whale Festival adds soul to the event with the LIVE Whale Aid Concert. A sensational line up that promises to deliver an energy that you can’t refuse to get down and groove to!
LIVE WHALE AID CONCERT

WHERE: Seafront Oval, Hervey Bay
It’s more than just the SEA-front location of the Hervey Bay Whale Festival that is set to warm your soul at this year’s event. A number of grassoots Australian musos from the South East QLD area are set to bring the Seafront Oval alive and bring with it an island vibe with it’s reggae and roots flavours.
A gold coin entry fee is encouraged as the event aims to raise funds for whale conservation. The funds will be donated locally to the Oceania Project- an organisation that conducts local research annually with Hervey Bay's Humpback Whales in Platypus Bay.
Alongside the exciting entertainment program, a number of presentations will be given on whales and Australia's unique native wildlife with special guest presenters Bob Irwin from the Bob Irwin Wildlife Fund and Wally Franklin from the Oceania Project.

A FRENCH BUTLER CALLED SMITH A French Butler Called Smith are excited to headline this year’s Live Whale Aid concert delivering infectious grooves that will lead into the final fireworks finale. The band describe their music style as latin, funk and instrumental fusion. A French Butler Called Smith’s performances have to be experienced to be believed. The 5 piece band from the Gold Coast deliver a contagious performance energy that is consuming to watch and it’s no exaggeration that it’s impossible to keep your feet still once you are within the energy realms of their music. The band have multi-layered sounds of latin, gyspy, world-roots and funk at ecstacically captivating levels. The band’s musical intentions are to bring people together for an all organic,spirited experience for the sole purpose of celebrating the joy of living. And their performances are a testament to that admirable vision. |

ASA BROOMHALL If you fancy a bit of Rock, Folk and Blues with a dose of mischief, make sure you check out SE Qld's favorite Rock/Roots larrikin; Asa Broomhall is sailing on the momentum of his 4th independent and self produced release ‘Revelry Road’. Asa's powerhouse guitar playing and soaring voice with some tasty blues harp thrown in and a thumping stomp box continues to enchant audiences everywhere. From clubs and festivals all over Oz to supporting national and international acts, Asa has taken his guitar driven, dynamic show to the UK, Canada and the States and is coming to Hervey Bay to share a piece with you. |

THE TWINE You saw them on Australia's Got Talent, now catch them LIVE in Hervey Bay at the Whale Festival. The Twine is a joyous roller-coaster of wild rythm and groove that will get all ages stomping along to the infectious beat. With long time partners Melani and Damio playing 5 instruments each...at the same time... and little pint-sized Obi Sun (a demon on the drums and dance floor), this show is an absolute MUST SEE. The Twine will feature in the Live Whale Aid concert line up and will also run interactive rhythm and groove workshops in the Kids Festival throughout the day. The workshops are highly interactive, up beat, fun, creative workshops that focus on the joy of music.

KOOII Kooii have a unique sound that’s a combination of reggae, Jazz and Latin. Fresh and inspiring, Kooii have become one of Brisbane’s most sought after groove outfits. Kooii’s music is one of the most distinctive and captivating sounds resonating out of Australia. Melding reggae, jazz and African music in lyrical and soulful song, they have had a strong influence on the development of their local culture. THE GREEN ROOM Music Style: Reggae and Rock When: 2:45pm The Green Room are a reggae and rock outfit from South East QLD with soulful grooves inspired by the masters of reggae Bob Marley, Fat Freddy’s Drop and the Red Eye. The band emerged from this creative chrysalis in early 2010 impressing audiences with cleverly constructed tunes and a positive message presented in a high energy stage show. Drawing on a contagious enthusiasm for playing music together and a freedom to express their individual creativity through song, this funky four piece create a unique yet distinctive sound infusing a massive reggae influence with surf rock undertones. The end result is a set of seriously danceable tracks and an ocean of very satisfied punters. Riding a wave of great reviews, the Green Room jump on board the festival circuit and head to the snow fields later in the year gathering momentum while keeping one eye fixed firmly on what’s most important - having fun.

THE FLUMES ‘The Flumes’ seamlessly weave the organic tones of our ancient friendThe Harp - with solid grooves and stylin’ rhythms - creating a lushly funky, dark and sparkling, cinematic brew. Harper Kayt Wallace immerses her innate melodic sense in a 36-string Electric Harp. Her sultry vocals infuse the combo as fellow musical adventurer Stephan Beattie lays down slippery bass grooves and guitar rhythms. Drummer Damien Jones completes the rhythm section on skins.

THE EMILY WENHAM BAND Music Style: Acoustic-folk-funk When: 11:00am Take the sonic ingredients of an earthy rhythmical acoustic guitar blended with the progressive funk fusion slappings of a 6 string bass, combine them with emotive soulful vocals, mix in a solid backbeat, add a pinch of Latin and the slightest reggae aroma, bake on stage for 60 mins and you will have the eclectic juicy flavours of The Emily Wenham Band. Emily and Brad Wenham form the creative heartbeat of the band, drawing from influences as widely varied as Ani DiFranco, Victor Wooten, The Waifs, Tribal Tech, Fiona apple, Steve Morse Band and Michael Franti to name a few. The recent addition of new band member Brett Lanes on drums and percussion has added a new dynamic twist to the tasty grooves of the Emily Wenham Band’s music.

Fraser Island’s dingos will be one of the topics covered when wildlife crusader Bob Irwin makes a rare public appearance as a special guest speaker at the Hervey Bay Whale Festival on 7 August.
Bob Irwin, father of the late Steve Irwin, is a passionate conservationist dedicating his life to protecting Australia's native wildlife and preserving its habitat for future generations.
Special Guest Wally Franklin
When: 9:00pm
Researcher Wally Franklin who will discuss the Humpback Icon Project and the importance of tracking individual whales as they migrate along the eastern seaboard.
BAR AND FOOD AVAILABLE
The Torquay Hotel Bar will be located within the concert venue and will open at 4:00pm Please note that the event venue is not licensed and no BYO will be allowed on site. All alcoholic beverages must be purchased and consumed within the licensed bar area.
A food-court area will be located close to the bar area for your convenience with a wide selection of market stalls throughout the day. Food vendors will be open from 10am- 10:30pm.
SEATING
We encourage you to bring along a picnic blanket to make yourself comfortable for the concert. The concert is located on an open-aired grassed area, so bring along a picnic rug or folding chair and get there early to secure the best seats in the house.
MERCHANDISE
Whale Festival merchandise will soon be available to purchase online. We have a selection of surf t's, caps and kids t's available that are great souvenirs from the event. Merchandise will also be available for purchase from the INFORMATION tent at the Festival. Limited stock available.
GETTING TO THE FESTIVAL
1. WALK- if you are within easy-walking distance take a lesiurely stroll!
2. PARK AND WALK- a limited number of premium parking spaces on the opposite side of the Esplanade to Seafront Oval will be available for $2. Get in early, as limited spaces are available.
3. PARK AND RIDE- a FREE park and ride bus service will operate between Charles Street, Pialba (opposite USQ) and near to the Seafront Oval. Times of operation are 1:00pm- 5:30pm and 6:30pm- 11:00pm.
4. DROP OFF AREA- dropping someone off? We recommend the lower end of Main Street, Pialba before the left turn into Charles Street.
NB: Please note there will be no parking behind the Seafront Oval, as this is reserved for performers and events crew.
